The SINU working group ‘NUTRITION IN ONCOLOGY’ was set up in 2021 and approved by the Governing Council at its meeting on 5/10/2021. The group has the following main objectives:
- To describe the scientific evidence on the role of nutrition and lifestyle in cancer prevention and treatment.
- To standardize the assessment of nutritional status and define nutritional requirements at diagnosis, during therapy (or treatment), and at follow-up of cancer patients
- To provide evidence-based and updated research recommendations in the field of primary and tertiary cancer prevention
- To promote scientific research networks in the field of nutrition in oncology
WORK PLAN: literature reviews aimed at drafting position papers; participation in cancer awareness campaigns on healthy lifestyles in oncology and collaboration with cancer patient associations. The results aim to close nutritional gaps in the management of cancer patients, highlight the challenges for nutrition in oncology, and provide tools for improving primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.
