The SINU working group “Dietetics applied to physical activity, exercise and sports disciplines” aka “SINU SPORT” aims to:

  • Promote knowledge on the effectiveness of physical activity, in conjunction with good eating habits, in promoting mental and physical well-being and in preventing and treating chronic non-communicable diseases.
  • Support research into proper eating habits to improve physical fitness and performance.
  • From the youngest age, promote the Mediterranean dietary model among the sportspeople.
  • Effectively communicate the priority of commonly used foods and beverages over the misuse or abuse of dietary supplements among sportspeople.
  • Encourage initiatives with national sports federations, sports promotion bodies and public institutions to promote good nutrition in sporting activities.

Structure of the work in accordance with the proposed objectives:

  • Publishing mono-thematic brochures on the main nutritional aspects of physical activity and sport in order to promote knowledge on the effectiveness of physical activity in conjunction with good eating habits to support mental and physical well-being and to prevent and to treat chronic non-communicable diseases, and from an early age promotion of the Mediterranean dietary model among sportspeople.
  • Reporting on publications on emerging issues or reviewing the literature on good eating habits aimed at improving physical and performance capacity.
  • Implementing the nutrition education project by conducting hands-on workshops in collaboration with the FIGC (in Italian: Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio, the governing body of soccer in Italy) in soccer schools across the country.
