The working group started in 2016 with the aim of clarifying the nutritional and technological differences between fresh fruit, 100% fruit juices and other fruit-based beverages, focusing on the relationship between consumption of 100% fruit juices and health.
The Dietary Guidelines of several Countries consider the consumption of one portion of 100% fruit juice a valid alternative for replacing one of the five portions of fruit and vegetables to be consumed daily. However, the possible implications of this substitution on the balance of the diet and the health need further clarification.
To update SINU Members and professionals of the nutritional area, the working group reviewed the existing international scientific literature and finalized a dossier that formed the scientific basis for the SINU document “The consumption of 100% fruit juices in the context of healthy eating “.
The document was disclosed both at the SINU National Congress 2017 and at different SINU itinerant training events, and it is can be freely downloaded from the SINU website.
Currently, the working group is finalizing a systematic review and meta-analysis on the possible relationship between fruit juice consumption and cardiovascular risk factors.
